Everything Connects project is to find connection from the VCLP topics. At first I wanted to make about consumerism.
The first one is a question that I want to raise something like does consumerism fool us or something, and the connection I made is consumerism and food products. It's because a lot of food products contains lot of chemicals and even organic products sometimes are not totally organic. And it's not mentioned in the advertisements and it's more like consumerism takes advantage of our ignorance somehow. So i wanted to create awareness for that.
Then comes my second idea which i link consumerism with pollution and technological advancement and I thought of bringing up the question of whether pollution has increased over the year because of consumerism or because of technology. And for now it is just letting the audience think and decide which is the cause but I think after some more research I might be able to make a conclusion and maybe propose a solution to reduce pollution.
But after discussing with my lecturer she told me that there are 3 connections and that it would be better to narrow it down to 2 and we decided to for technology advancement and how it is affecting our world both positively and negatively.
Here are my research/notes
Industrial Revolutions
1st Industrial Revolution
Mechanical equipments
water
Steam engines
2nd Industrial Revolution
electricity
mass production
3rd Industrial Revolution
Information technology
robot and automation
4th Industrial Revolution
genetics
3d printing
biotechnology
nano techhnology
internet of things
quantum computers
1st Industrial Revolution
new manufacturing processes
Creation of Industries
textile factories
2nd Industrial Revolution
steel oil and electricity industries
inventions : light bulb, telephone, internal combution engine
3rd Industrial Revolution
inventions : semi conductor, personal computer, internet
4th Industrial Revolution
inventions : 3d printing, AI
problems: privacy issue for companies, create inequality, eliminate jobs and create demand for job that workers have skills for, some companies and government can't keep up with the fast paste
Influence of Industrial Revolution
1st Industrial Revolution
change transportation, people come to settle in cities in large numbers
2nd Industrial Revolution
electricity improved mass production
vehicles was invented, people travel long distances easily
chemicals was also introduced
4th Industrial Revolution
Internet of things with robots
machine talking to each other
sending data if something is wrong
Artificial intelligence calculating when the machine will break down
automated robot for delivery
interconnected supply chains
ships talking to warehouses and trucks which enables us to get everything ready and set automated robots and stuffs
Internet of things
everything is connected
sending data constantly
enable user to know when something is wrong and what is wrong exactly
can automatically send message to company to help client
also helps company to know if similar issues is happening with other products
help them find exact issue
and help them improve their products
Quantum Computer
fastest computer ever
processes data in qubits which can be 1 and 0 at the same time
they are also inter connected
and the work in wave rather than linear
Biotechnology
Red biotech: create medicines and drugs to prolonge life and cure diseases
Green biotech: make food product last longer, plants produce bigger more food, food stay healthy for healthy animals and micro organism,
Blue biotech: increase sea food production
White biotech: make industrial production cost effective and environmental friendly
Steam Engines
using steam engine created air pollution as they burn coal and fossil fuels to boil the water which releases a lot of chemicals
in the air
Some steam engines nowadays use nuclear power which cause less pollutants to release in the air
Some engines uses concentrated solar power which has no effects on the environment
Creation of poor quality products made in mass production at lower cost
laisser faire economics
businesses would operate with no gov interference and were able to do illegal stuffs and take advantages over people to reduce cost
this help them rise a lot
long hours of work and low payment
child labour
no school = work in factories
dangerous working
injured = fired
creation of new class structure
rich
upper middle
lower middle
poor
urbanization
crowded building
rise in trash on the road
wide spread of disease
Improved transportation
train
ships
roads
Reformed movement
leads to new laws
greater human rights
abolishion of slavery
woman right to vote
better working condition
global migration
rise in global economy and start of competition for power
better trade = spread of goods world wide
new imperialism = countries taking over other countries
I still need to make some more research but I think at this point I am going to start make connections and mind maps to try to come up with interesting stuffs for the leaflet.
