Motion Project: Research 2

Continuing with my research on finding an idea for my animation, I decided to make a sort of storyboard for my very first idea which was the one with the little sugar cube on top of people's head.

Well I know before I said that it was too literally sugar and I needed to make it with a double meaning but well my mind just would not work so I did that in hopes that I will get an idea but well in vain haha.

After a while I realized that sugar can be related to evolution so I decided to make my second meaning "evolution" and the first thing that I've think of was technology, because similar to sugar, technology has evolve a lot too.

And after some thinking I've been able to come up with this idea based on my first idea. So this one will basically show a world where there are a lot of sugar people. They live in a very developed world and are keep on trying to to further with their development. And their world is all about energy and they want more and more of it and thus causing the destruction of a huge nuclear factory and destroyed the earth. It's meaning is that technology is good but bad usage of it will make it bad, and the reason why the people are sugar and not real people is because it's the same thing for sugar.

After that I was a bit lost and lacking of ideas again and I didn't want to stick to only 1 idea, so back to mind maps...

I did this mind map to try to find similar things other than technology, I could find some but they were no close to sugar and not interesting so it was in vain.

So after that fail I went on trying to find other things that has evolved a lot over the years and I came up with this mind map. Well through all these things I've found the Medical side, Education and research that was kind of interesting. But I didn't really got much ideas for "medical" and "research", however I found that education has some similarities to sugar. So I went on listing them down.

Here they are... I also realized that sugar's value is one very important change that has happened over the years. It became really affordable and kind of lost the value it had back when it was first discovered. So I was wondering if education has also lost it's value, and I found some people who's been saying yes, because the internet made learning so easy and mostly free so you don't really need to leave your house to learn. I also found people saying that education being made more and more affordable with all the facilities that universities or even the government offer now, there are too much people with degree so to get a very good job you have to study twice that much to get a master or something so that you get accepted.

Well I did get some good information but I couldn't really work an idea out of them, so I kind of save these information for later use

However at this point I watched a lot of short animation on youtube, that I've documented on the previous post, and through these animations I've been able to come up with this idea.

So it's the story of an old man who lives alone in the forest and suddenly got an idea to build up a machine that evolve things, so he went out and start using it and at first it was doing good but these everything start getting polluted and stuffs and suddenly the whole place became a desert. After that the machine opens and there will be a sugar cube inside of it as it's battery.

So this shows that both sugar and technology when used wrongly and too much will cause troubles.

And after a tutorial with my lecturer she suggested that I work towards the idea the old man.

So I went researching a little bit more on the goods and bad of technology and listed them down.

Then I made this rough and messy storyboard. Well as from scene 5 everything starts getting even more rough and messier so I decided to make them more detailed down here...

So now let me explain a little bit because I know how bad my sketches are.

Well firstly it will just show how bored the old man was and how he suddenly god the idea to make that evolution gun and gets out of his house.

Then he shoot on his dead crops and it became well grown and ready to harvest, then he shoot a second time and it became a factory. After that the machines gets bigger (that kind of related to more sugar consumption). Then he shoot at his horse and turn it into a car then shoot again and it became a plane. Then, the gun grows again, and as from here he became obsessed and start shooting everywhere and as from here you will see birds falling to represent the air pollution then the other last sketch is water pollution.

You can see his obsessed face then a huge smoke will happen and the whole place will turn into a desert and then the machine will also be broken and the man will be unconscious. Also in the broken machine there will be the sugar cube that will fall off it's battery place.

So after showing this to my lecturer in another tutorial she made me realize that I have went way too far from the idea of sugar and that my idea is more focused on pollution and the effects of technology. But instead of telling to completely change the idea the told me to just change some elements here and there and make it like all the things that is happening is actually what happens in your body when you consume too much sugar. She also told me to go and research on what happens inside of your body when you eat sugar.
