Data Visualization Exercise

We got a pretty cool activity which is to track down some data about ourselves and visualize it after 1 week. I choose to track down how many wastes I produce when I cook or prepare stuffs to eat because I everyday.

I calculated every bit I could and put it as a fraction of how much I was throwing away to how much I was cooking and I also calculated how much food I threw away when what I cooked was not very good to eat haha.

In the end I decided to represent the data in a potato peel to related to wastage while cooking. At first I did not knew how exactly then I saw a data visualization in a circle and I thought it could be good to make the potato peel in a circle this way it is additive and at the same time separate the data from morning to night like I recorded it.

Here is the picture that I took. To be able to separate it and all I decided to do that in photoshop. I removed the background and put it in grey scale then used an overlay and a multiply layer to color in the data.

After that I erase the unnecessary parts and then put it in Ai to ad the text and all.

It was looking good to me but for other people they might not understand so I added the days. It was pretty daunting to add the days because I was not very used to writing on a path on Ai but I finally got the hang of it and wrote it.

And here's my final outcome

You need to start reading from the center and the rest is pretty straight foward. Looking at it like this made me think that maybe I should have throw away more stuffs so that I could have used more of that potato peel haha.
