Ok so if you read the post about Natural Impression on Design Principles, this is the continuation.

Briefly we had to make a visual imagery of 4 places with a typography that we arranged with things from our environment. For design Process we had to choose one of these 4 and further develop it into an experiential map for a mini exhibition.

We chose "peculiar" for that as it was easier to pass the message through an experiential map and we were able to further develop it

So what we can see from this imagery is a dying tree surrounded by many green trees. It was very odd at first glance but after further analysis it's a beautiful contrast. Directly from that analysis we were able to relate it to our elders who are very odd to us youngsters sometimes and kind of annoys us also sometimes but in the end if they were not here annoying us, we would be deprived of our values and will lack in some knowledge as they are the ones who knows more and bring to us values from childhood.

So because we had to represent it in a non visual form so we decided to make it into a box where they will be able to feel the odd feel. Then we also realized that leaves decay and becomes mineral in the soil for new plants, so we decided to put leaves inside, dry leaves so that they can feel the odd feeling and green leaves that will be very smooth and comfy to touch. Then of course we elaborated further and that's the final outcome.

The box is made of 2 pieces. We made the middle part a very uncomfortable and "ugly" kind of look to make the audience feel uncertain and hesitant to put their hands inside just like teenagers feel uneasy to get close to old people. the other part is what keeps the top closed which is made of a very white smooth cardboard to represent the modern part. And at the very bottom we had ropes that represent roots so that the whole thing will give the message that even old even young we are all from the same roots and we are the same basically.

So this is the instructions...

The audience is to put his hand into the hole and feel the leaves inside where they will feel the smoothness of the green leaves first then while moving around they will feel the dry leaves and their harshness and dryness. This will give them the odd and uncomfortable feel, that depicts the feeling that us youngsters sometimes feel around old people.

Then we will open the box and everything will be revealed to them with this image and little explanation. The dry/ dead leaves will decay and become minerals to the new plants to grow properly, just like old persons who inculcate values and norms and give us, youngsters, knowledge about the world and life.

Illusive perception is the title we chose for the exhibition as it tells the audience that we think old people are odd and annoying, useless somehow in the society, but in reality they play a major role in the upbringing of the modern world and we should give them the respect that they deserve.
