Firstly our lecturer showed us a video by Christoph Niemann that talked about us being able to read images as a universal language. Basically our mind is really fluent at reading images and we can easily take anything as a subject matter, that is I could take a pebble and with imagination I could put it into a different context with a very different meaning other than just a simple pebble. Abstraction is a very powerful tool that gives inspiration and idea generating for artists or designers.
Then she made us do an exercise which was "the red dot."

Basically we had to sketch everything that was coming into our mind based on a red dot and these were a few of my ideas.

Then we had another lecture where the teacher told us to make lines out of the dots, giving it shape, put it in a pattern and play around with it. So i decided to go a bit abstract and this was the most interesting part of it...
-For the first one I was just playing around with circles and got the texture of a curly hair.
-The second one I've made lines with the dot and obtained a weird kind of symbol.
-Then I gave the dot shape and cut it in have and obtained the idea of making it the light of an old fashion car.
-Then again I played with circles and obtained the idea for a tornado or some kind of a portal.
-I then try to put it in a pattern and got the idea of a brick wall.
-Then I tried to mix the making pattern and playing with the size and got the idea for gears.
-And lastly I mixed the idea of making pattern together with giving shape and got the idea of making it as flying pieces of land like in Journey to the Center of the Earth.
-And oh, my last trial was incomplete so it just left this mess in a corner haha.
After that the teacher told us to mix our ideas together with our friend and there was this very interesting idea from one of my friend where he made dots go inside a 'heart shaping' machine that is giving everybody a different size of heart.
So, i tried to represent it in another way by making a 'tree of life' kind of and instead of having leaves it has hearts of people and some are still dots because they are still small or not born yet or something.
I really enjoyed this exercise, it showed me a way to open my mind to more possible ideas and not to mention how fun it was to sketch all of these ideas. It was a really great experience.
